Year 6 forensic science day

Our year 6 pupils became forensic investigators for the day as they took part in an exciting and engaging forensic science day.  The children were challenged to solve the mystery of a stolen trophy by using a range of scientific enquiry skills and working collaboratively to gather and analyse evidence.

The day began with the discovery of a carefully staged crime scene. Working in teams, the children examined the evidence, recorded observations and searched for clues to establish what had happened. They quickly realised that every detail mattered and that careful observation was essential to solving the case.

Throughout the day, the pupils explored a range of real forensic techniques. They carried out fingerprint analysis and investigated footprints, measuring and analysing shoe prints to determine who may have been present at the scene.

In another activity, the children used microscopes to examine fibre, learning how forensic scientists use tiny pieces of evidence to link suspects to a crime. They also tackledcoded clues, using logical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving skills to decipher a hidden message that helped the investigation move forward to successfully identify the culprit responsible for stealing the trophy.

The day provided an excellent opportunity to develop scientific enquiry, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills in a fun and memorable way. The children showed great enthusiasm throughout the investigations and impressed everyone with their determination, attention to detail, and ability to think like real forensic scientists.

It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning that brought science to life and inspired plenty of future investigators!

Thank you so much to Goffs Academy for organising this event. The children loved it!
