Year 4 - Crime and Punishment.
BackCrime and Punishement.
In History, the children have been studying Crime and Punishment in Britain from the Anglo-Saxon period through to the Victorian era and modern day. They explored how crimes, punishments and the justice system have changed over time, making links between different historical periods and comparing how people were treated in the past with today’s laws and rights. The children were particularly shocked by the harsh punishments used in earlier periods, including trials by ordeal, public punishments and transportation, and reflected on how attitudes towards fairness and justice have developed over time.
They discussed why punishments changed across different periods of history and considered how factors such as power and society influenced the justice system. The children showed great curiosity during discussions and developed a deeper understanding of how Britain has changed throughout history.
