Year 6 History – The Islamic Golden Age
BackThis half term, Year 6 have been exploring the fascinating Islamic Golden Age, investigating the enquiry question: ‘What impact did the Islamic Golden Age have on our world today?’

The children began by discovering what life was like in Baghdad over 1,000 years ago and why it became such an important centre for learning, trade and innovation. They explored the significance of the Silk Road, investigated advances in medicine and healthcare, and learnt about influential scholars such as Ibn Sina and Al-Razi, whose work helped shape modern medicine.

Year 6 also compared life in Baghdad with life in Britain during the same period, discovering some remarkable differences in education, healthcare, housing and trade. Finally, they explored the impact of the Mongol invasion of Baghdad in 1258. Throughout the topic, the children have developed their historical enquiry skills by examining sources, making comparisons and presenting their findings through detailed written work and colourful double-page spreads. Most importantly, they have discovered how ideas and achievements from over a thousand years ago continue to influence our lives today!
