Year 4 Geography Local Walk
BackThis half term in Geography, Year 4 have been learning all about Brazil and comparing life there with our own local area. We explored the different regions of Brazil and discovered how people live in a variety of environments. One of our key learning focuses was the Brazilian favelas. The children learned about the homes, communities and daily lives of people living in these neighbourhoods, comparing them with the houses and facilities we have in our local area. They discussed similarities and differences and thought carefully about how geography, wealth and the environment can influence the way people live.
To bring our learning to life, we enjoyed a walk around our local community. Using the knowledge they had gained in class, the children observed the types of houses, roads, public spaces and local facilities around us. They made thoughtful comparisons between our neighbourhood and the favelas in Brazil, considering what makes each place unique and how people's lives can differ across the world. The children demonstrated excellent curiosity and respect throughout the topic, developing a greater understanding of the diverse ways people live and gaining valuable geographical enquiry skills.
