BackA Visit from a Real Head Gardener!
Today, we were delighted to welcome a very special visitor to our school—Head Gardener Mr Scudder—who led an inspiring and hands-on workshop for our children.
Mr Scudder began by sharing what it’s like to work as a gardener and plant expert. The children were fascinated to learn about the wide range of skills involved in caring for plants, trees and outdoor spaces. From planting and maintaining to understanding how different species grow and thrive, it really opened their eyes to the world around them.
One of the highlights of the session was discovering some truly amazing facts about trees. The children were amazed to learn that trees can actually communicate with each other through underground networks! This sparked lots of curiosity and thoughtful questions, as pupils began to see trees in a whole new way. Even more astonishing was the fact that some types of trees have existed on earth since before the dinosaurs—what an incredible connection to the past!
Mr Scudder also brought in real clippings from trees, giving the children a chance to see and explore them.
It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic and involved the children were throughout the workshop. They listened carefully, asked fantastic questions and came away with a wealth of new knowledge about the natural world.
A huge thank you to Mr Scudder for taking the time to visit us and share his expertise. It was a truly enriching experience.
