DT in Y2
BackIn Design and Technology this week, the children have begun an exciting project to design and create a chair for Baby Bear. The focus of this lesson was to explore different construction techniques and investigate how to make structures stronger and more stable. The children were introduced to a range of paper and card modelling techniques, which they practised before applying them to their own designs. These included creating flanges by folding tabs in paper to join pieces together securely, layering paper to increase strength and durability, rolling paper into tubes to form strong supports. The children took part in a practical challenge where they built simple 3D structures and tested their strength. They were encouraged to balance as many rulers as possible on their structures, observing what made some designs stronger than others.
