A Visit from a Paramedic

This week our school was excited to welcome Jack, a paramedic, who visited every year group to deliver an engaging and informative workshop. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about an important role in our community and to discover how they can help keep others safe.

Jack began each session by explaining what he does as part of his job as a paramedic. He spoke about how paramedics help people who are injured or unwell and how they often have to make quick decisions to provide care when someone needs it most. The children were fascinated to hear about the different situations he might respond to and the important skills needed to do his job.

During the workshop, Jack also taught the children how to look after others and what they can do if someone is hurt or feeling unwell. He explained simple steps they can take to check if someone needs help and how to respond calmly when a casualty needs assistance. The sessions helped the children understand that even small actions, such as staying calm and getting help from an adult, can make a big difference.

The children showed fantastic curiosity throughout the visit. They asked lots of thoughtful questions to deepen their understanding of what paramedics do. From wanting to know what equipment paramedics use, to asking how long it takes to train for the job, the children were keen to learn as much as possible about this important profession.

One of the most important parts of the workshop was learning what to do in an emergency. Jack explained when it is important to call for help and reminded the children who they should contact if someone needs urgent medical assistance. By the end of the session, the children had a clearer understanding of how to respond in an emergency and the importance of acting quickly and responsibly.
