Flamstead End School has been awarded the Foundation level of the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life and work in today’s world.

Our international work includes building working relationships with schools in Jamaica to share best practice on how to develop a reading for pleasure culture across their school communities.

The work with the British Council and our partner schools in Jamaica gave us the ideas to invigorate our reading for pleasure culture across our school. Some of the activities Mr Wright shared with his own class inspired them to create and run their own lunchtime library club for pupils across KS2 which meant the reading for pleasure ideals spread across our school.
