BackOur intent for Geography
At Flamstead End School, through our teaching of geography, we hope that pupils will increase their knowledge and understanding of the changing world and will want to look after the Earth and its resources. We hope that they will begin to develop respect and concern for, and an interest in, people throughout the world regardless of culture, race and religion.
Implementation:
In Geography lessons:
- Children’s interest in and curiosity about their surroundings is stimulated;
- Children develop a sense of wonder about the world;
- Children are inspired by a sense of responsibility for the environments and people of the world we live in;
- Children gain competence in specific geographical skills;
- Children remember and increase their key knowledge and awareness of the world;
- Children acquire and develop the skills and confidence to undertake investigation, problem solving and decision-making.

Year 3 enjoying a sunny afternoon of fieldwork in Cheshunt Park.
The children in the Nursery had a walk around their local area looking for man made things and signs of nature. They had to identify key buildings and signs as part of their community theme.
We love making maps in the Nursery!
In the Nursery we talk about the weather at home and in other places.

Year 1 learning about the environment and recycling in our local area
Year 1 - the start of their learning journey about where our food comes from.
Year 2-What are the nations and capital cities of the UK?
Year 3 enjoying fieldwork in our local area.
Year 3 planning and designing their own parks after visiting Cheshunt Park.
Producing posters that answer enquiry questions at the end of a unit of work about 'Why does the Earth shake rattle and roll?'
Year 5- working wall for the enquiry question 'Where do our clothes come from?'
Year 6- How is our local area changing?
